    Question

OK, I got some got feedback the last time (thanks to Lundgren et al) so I have tweaked the shopping list. This is pasted out of Excel so hopefully it looks OK. If anyone wants to email me I can send the original file so we can discuss it. The one unknown is the exhaust system. Of course this is an "all out " treatment, and I think that Stage 2B Engine Safety should probably be lumped in with 2A anyway. Thanks guys !

Not to be one of those people who reply to their own posts, but here goes...

It seems to just go to a 8 or 9 psi pulley ($130 ? plus labor) I would need all the stuff from Stage 2B plus an intake of some sort (say, $200). The Endyn mod package includes the pulley and an intake, so to my way of thinking, its "only" an additional $1145 or so, to get effective boost of 15-16 psi.

Ambitious arent we? smile The numbers look relatively close I think. Except, how many here has went thru a Endyn mod anyway? I just hope it's worth it.

8 psi for the LS kit is not the same upgrade as the GSR kit. The LS kit already uses a 3.2 " blower pulley.... JR suggested using a CR-V alternator pulley swap as a 8psi upgrade.

It's interesting to think that almost $1.5K of that $9K is going to a mechanics pocket. That's alot of dough.

    Good luck!

Redintegra... that would be a CR-V crank pulley, not an alternator pulley that should be swapped in for more boost.

I thought you couldn't tax labor?

How long do you really think your stock motor is going to hold the power of 15-16psi? I think you're gonna end up dropping ~$9k into your car and blowing the motor pretty quickly. Even with all the engine safety stuff, you SHOULD be making >300 hp to the wheels, LS rods are even weaker than GSRs, I can't imagane them holding nearly all that power.

I'm pretty positive that labor is taxed here in the Commonwealth. To speak to Holden's point, I live in an apartment (they get cranky when you try to change wiper fluid much less bolting on all kindsa stuff), plus my toolchest, time, skills, and patience are all limited. Plus this has to be a daily driver, so downtime has to be kept to a minimum.

Phantom brings up a good point about rods - add that to the shopping list for, what ? $500 plus labor ?

What it seems to come down to is ...
    $3600 for the 6 psi/better fuel pump
try not to beat up on the stock clutch and susp. Still spring for the brake upgrades

$4600 for a 8/9 psi setup including engine safety items, pulley, intake.

$6600 to get the Endyn deal (more now for upgraded rods) plus an unknown $$ for exhaust setup. Say $8000.

Probably going over $10K to do the whole thing. Ouch !

I'm not being negative with the following comment, I think you're planning a kick ass car.

However, I would really recommend turning the wrenches yourself. If you don't, you won't understand everything (reading the instructions is only good for so much, I know!) and you will end up pulling out your wallet to pay your mechanic/tuner more often than Bill Clinton speed dials his dry cleaner!

Of course, if tools/garage space/butterfingers presents a problem, you don't have much of a choice, but try to do as much by yourself as possible. You will be happier living with the end results.

Plus by doing it all at once you get bored of the power at some point and want more. By going step by step when you get bored do something else to increase the power.

The key here is to determine why you want to do this to your car. I knew I wanted to a) work on the car, that part is fun b) race the car c) keep the car forever. If you can't say those things, or something else like showing the car, then you really ought to look at your reasons and level of commitment. Kinda like SW "once you start down the dark path..." You won't really stop at a point unless you give it all up and get something else. Decide what your goal is, and then go from there.
